Why the sticker price isn’t what you keep
Etsy charges several fees on every sale: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the total the buyer pays (including shipping), and a payment processing fee that varies by country. Add them up and Etsy typically keeps somewhere around a fifth to a quarter of the order, before you even count Offsite Ads. Pricing without knowing that number is how sellers end up working for less than they think.
Digital products pay the same fees as physical ones
There’s no shipping cost to factor in, but the listing fee, transaction fee and payment processing fee apply the same way to a digital download as to a handmade item. If you’re pricing a printable or template, this calculator is exactly as relevant as it would be for a physical product.
Fees only matter once buyers are actually choosing your listing. If you’re getting views but not sales, the fee isn’t the problem, read you can't tag your way out of a sales problem.

What fees does Etsy charge on a sale?
A $0.20 listing fee when you create or renew a listing, a 6.5% transaction fee on the listing price plus any shipping, and a payment processing fee that varies by country (3% + $0.25 per order in the US). If an Etsy Offsite Ad leads to a sale, there is also a 15% advertising fee, or 12% once your shop has made $10,000 in sales over the prior year.
How often do I pay the listing fee on a digital download?
Each time the listing is created or renewed, at $0.20. A listing expires after four months and renews automatically unless you switch that off, and a listing with more than one in stock renews after each item sells. Digital downloads are usually listed with a high quantity, so in practice you pay the listing fee again with each sale.
Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?
Shops with under $10,000 in sales over the prior 365 days can opt out. Once a shop reaches $10,000 it pays the lower 12% rate on attributed orders for the life of the shop, and the fee on a single order is capped at $100. Offsite Ads fees only apply when an ad directly leads to a sale.
Are there other Etsy fees to know about?
Possibly. Depending on your country there can be a one-time shop set-up fee, a 2.5% currency conversion fee if you list in a different currency from your payment account, and regulatory operating fees in some countries.
